Rooted in ancestry.Created through awakening.Painted with spirit.

Patricia Brackett creates expressive mixed-media works that weave together ancestry, identity, femininity, memory, beauty and spiritual connection.

The artist

Art as awakening

Patricia Brackett is a Detroit-based visual artist and founder of CameeO Love, LLC. Her journey into painting began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when her daughter faced a life-threatening battle following the birth of Patricia’s granddaughter.

In the midst of that profound experience, Patricia felt called to wake and paint on canvas — and answered.

What began as an awakening became a lifelong creative journey. Inspired by the Ancestors, Patricia works primarily in acrylic and mixed media, combining bold linework, vibrant colour, layered pattern, fabric, texture and found materials. Her work explores ancestry, identity, femininity, spirituality, memory, beauty and the connections carried across generations.

The work up close

More than paint on canvas

Every layer holds a memory. Every pattern carries a connection. Every texture invites a closer look.

Metallic finishes

Gold is built up thickly enough to hold a mark, then drawn into while the surface is still open.

Detail — All That Glitters

Close view of a flower: white petal strokes over black, edged with a row of small raised pearl dots.2 / 6

Raised materials

Beads and small raised elements are set into the surface, so the edge of a petal is something you can feel.

Detail — Night Garden

Close view of rows of turquoise dots, each with a small gold centre, painted over a clay-coloured field beside a stippled black line.3 / 6

Intuitive mark-making

Dots are laid in runs by hand. No two are the same size, and the drift between them is what gives a field its pulse.

Detail — Rhythm on Red

Close view of layered crimson paint over blush and grey, with pressed circular marks and visible brush texture.4 / 6

Layered texture

Colour is worked wet into dry over and over, so what reads as one red is four or five reds deep.

Detail — Woman in the Red Headwrap

Close view of the black contour lines, white dashes and dotted borders that divide the painted fields.5 / 6

Pattern and line

A heavy black contour holds each field apart, then a run of white dashes softens the boundary again.

Detail — SHO-NUFF

Close view of coiled hair: individual spiral marks drawn in metallic gold over dark brown.6 / 6

Repetition as rhythm

One spiral, then a hundred. The repetition is where the meditation of the work lives.
